Some Assembly Required is an expansive installation of sculptural assemblages composed of brightly colored ceramic objects that have been kiln-fired and finished with a wide range of finishes. These forms are strung together with cotton rope and knots, creating modular strands that are hung, suspended, draped, or arranged on the floor. Some are neatly organized; others are tangled and unruly- mirroring the chaotic balance of sustaining an artistic practice amid the relentless demands of motherhood, career, and community involvement. Their flexible configurations reflect the adaptability required of an artist navigating multiple roles. The installation explores the tension between structure and spontaneity, offering a visual metaphor for creative persistence and the resilience found in piecing together a creative practice, moment by moment.
